For the purposes of this section the expression 'placed in a proper position' means placed in such a position either on or near the bridge or on or near the road leading to the bridge as to be visible at a reasonable distance from the bridge to the drivers of vehicles approaching it, and the highway authority of any such road shall give to the bridge authority reasonable facilities for placing thereon any such notice as aforesaid.")

EARL RUSSELL

My Lords, I move that we agree with the Commons in this Amendment with an Amendment—to leave out "maximum weight permitted for the time being for a heavy motor car drawing a trailer" and to insert "aggregate of the maximum weights permitted for the time being for a heavy locomotive and the trailers drawn thereby when crossing a bridge." In answer to the noble Viscount, Lord Brentford, I ought to tell your Lordships that these Amendments have been agreed to by the railway companies so far as their bridges are concerned and they have been the subject of negotiations with other bridge authorities. I beg to move.

Amendment to the Commons Amendment moved— Leave out ("maximum weight permitted for the time being for a heavy motor car drawing a trailer") and insert the said new words.—(Earl Russell)

On Question, Amendment to the Commons Amendment agreed to.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment, as amended.—(Earl Russell.)
