HL Deb 08 July 1930 vol 78 cc322-3

Order of the Day for the Third Reading read.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD SANKEY)

My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill be read a third time. I will only do so formally. Its object is to make better provision for the defence of poor prisoners in criminal cases. It will be within your Lordships' recollection that the Bill was prepared about eighteen months ago, and received the approval of Sir William Joynson-Hicks, the then Home Secretary. It was brought in as a Private Member's Bill in November-last and passed through all the procedure in another place. It then came before your Lordships and it has passed through this House with one or two very small Amendments without any Division.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 3ª.— (The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Bill read 3ª, with the Amendments, and passed, and returned to the Commons.
