HL Deb 13 December 1926 vol 65 cc1557-8

Clause 6, page 5, line 42, at end insert the following new clause:

Provisions as to appointment by Crown of members of a council of the University.

".Whenever there occurs among the members of a council of the University a vacancy which is in accordance with statutes made under this Act to be filled by a person appointed by the Crown the vacancy shall be filled by a person appointed by His Majesty in Council, and before any draft Order in Council is submitted to His Majesty for that purpose sufficient opportunity to submit recommendations in regard to the appointment shall be given to such persons or bodies representative of the University as may be designated in that behalf by statutes made under this Act."

THE EARL OF AIRLIE

My Lords, this new clause, I think, speaks for itself. It indicates the desire to appoint persons agreeable to the University and gives, full opportunities for the University to make representations and recommendations to the Crown on this subject. I beg to move that your Lordships agree with the Commons in this Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Earl of Airlie.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
