HL Deb 16 August 1921 vol 43 cc819-20
THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (THE EARL OF CRAWFORD)

On the Question that the House do resume I would suggest that this Bill should be put down as the first Order to-morrow. Noble Lords expected that the Corn Production Acts (Repeal) Bill Amendments would be the first Order, and accordingly have been notified to be present at three o'clock. In those circumstances I think it would be desirable, if your Lordships agree, that we should meet a little earlier, and I suggest two o'clock, for the purpose of taking this Bill as the first Order. I do not -know how long it will take but I am told the Amendments remaining are not very formidable. The Amendments to the Corn Production Acts (Repeal) Bill are not very controversial.

THE MARQUESS OF CREWE

May I ask whether the Committee Stage of the Safeguarding of Industries Bill will be taken to-morrow?

THE EARL OF CRAWFORD

As the third Order

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

When will the Report Stage of this Bill he taken?

THE EARL OF CRAWFORD

We had hoped to finish tonight, and take the Report Stage to-morrow. It will he remembered that the interval between the Committee Stage and Report, as forecasted, had to be abandoned. It is hoped to take it at the earliest possible moment.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

The noble Earl will note that there have been several matters of importance left over to Report Stage.
