HL Deb 29 May 1919 vol 34 c963

The Lord Chairman brought before the notice of the Committee the question of the admission of Widows of Life Peers to the Gallery of the House.

The present practice is based on a resolution of the Offices Committee in 1894 to the effect that:— The regulations for the admission of wives and unmarried daughters of Peers to the Galleries of the House should extend to the wives and daughters of Lords of Appeal in Ordinary during the lifetime of such Lord.

The Committee agreed that this resolution should be amended so as to extend to widows of Lords of Appeal in Ordinary, and to read as follows:— The regulations for the admission of wives and unmarried daughters of Peers to the Galleries of the House should extend to the wives and daughters of Lords of Appeal in Ordinary during the lifetime of such Lord, and after the death of such Lord the regulations for the admission of wires of Peers shall extend to his widow so long as she remains unmarried.
