HL Deb 27 March 1919 vol 33 c1057

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD BIRKENHEAD)

My Lords, in moving the Second Reading of this Bill I think no detailed explanation is required; but I may toll you in a sentence that when the case of solicitors' clerks was dealt with in 1916, the case of the articled clerks of public notaries was not dealt with. The short effect of this Bill is to modify the requirements of the enactments relating to public notaries with respect to articled clerks who have served in His Majesty's Forces or in other public service or have been prisoners of war or interned in connection with the present war.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
