HL Deb 13 March 1919 vol 33 cc676-7

The Committee approved of the reorganisation of the House of Lords Staff in accordance with the Memorandum circulated by the Clerk of the Parliaments.

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF DONOUGHMORE)

My Lords, I am sorry that this First Report of the Select Committee has not been actually circulated to your Lordships. It has been rather a difficult Report to draft and print, but I can assure your Lordships that there is nothing very far-reaching in the proposals. The Report, of course, is now on the Table of the House, and I ask in the usual form that it may be considered and adopted. I think I ought to say two other things. One is that I am sure our sympathy goes out to the relatives of two members of your Lordships' staff, one of whom died the other day in very unhappy circumstances, and the other of whom was killed in action. I desire also to draw your Lordships' attention to the fact that four of your senior clerks are retiring. They are all very well known to your. Lordships, and I am certain that our good wishes go out to them in the retirement they have so splendidly earned.

Moved, That the Report be considered and adopted.—(The Earl of Donoughmore.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
