HL Deb 06 March 1919 vol 33 c555

Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee, read.

LORD LAMINGTON

My Lords, I beg to propose the postponement of the Committee stage of this Bill. In the discussion upon the Second Reading most of your Lordships who took part approved of the general object and intention of the Bill, but there was considerable criticism upon the proposal for the removal from the justices of their licensing functions. To meet that objection I and other noble Lords have been framing an Amendment, but it has not been possible to get it printed and circulated. Therefore I ask your Lordships to postpone the taking of the Committee stage of the Bill until it has been possible to have this Amendment printed and circulated.

Moved, That the Committee stage of this Bill be postponed.—(Lord Lamington.)

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE DUCHY OF LANCASTER (THE EARL OF CRAWFORD)

I think that the course which the noble Lord has adopted is a very convenient one.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and Committee stage postponed accordingly.
