HL Deb 29 July 1913 vol 14 c1506
LORD HINDLIP

My Lords, on behalf of Lord Curzon I beg to move for the Return that stands in his name on the Paper. The words have been slightly altered, but I understand that the alteration has been agreed to by the noble Marquess the Leader of the House.

Moved, That an humble Address be presented to His Majesty for a Return of all outstanding loans, grants, or advances of money made to the Persian Government, severally or jointly, by His Majesty's Government or by the Government of India.—(Earl Curzon of Kedleston.)

THE MARQUESS OF CREWE

Yes; the noble Earl, who is not now in the House, desired to amend his Return by making it apply to all loans made by the British or the Indian Government to Persia which may now be outstanding, instead of limiting it to those which have been made since the year 1907. I see no objection to altering the form of the Return. Speaking from recollection, I think that no advances were made between the year 1907 and the year 1912, to which we alluded yesterday; and also, speaking from recollection, I cannot say whether there are or are not any other liabilities on which interest is still paid. In any case I see no objection to granting the Return in the form suggested.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.

House adjourned at half-past Six o'clock, till To-morrow, a quarter past Ten o'clock.
