HL Deb 23 March 1910 vol 5 cc511-2
THE LORD CHANCELLOR

Will your Lordships allow me a word of explanation in regard to a statement I made during last week's debate, [†] to the effect that I was not a party to the decisions of this House in the Scottish Free Church case, the Taff Vale case, and the Osborne case? I believe that what I said has been misunderstood to mean that I dissented from those decisions. I did not mean anything of that kind, but only meant to correct what I thought at the moment Lord Ampthill conveyed in his speech as to my being a member of the Court. I had no thought of criticising the judicial decision of my colleagues or of in any way dissociating myself from them. That is the last thing I should do.
