HL Deb 26 July 1910 vol 6 c462

Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee, read.

Moved, That the House do now resolve itself into Committee.—(Earl Beauchamp.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House in Committee accordingly.

[Lord BALFOUR Of BURLEIGH in the Chair.]

EARL BEAUCHAMP

My Lords, the Amendments to this Bill which are down in my name look rather complicated, but they are really of a somewhat verbal character, and as I think they do not alter the general sense of the Bill I hope your Lordships will allow me to move them together.

Amendments moved—

Clause 1, page 1, lines 6 and 7, leave out ("and "subsection (1) of section eighteen")

Clause 1, page 1, line 8, after ("or") insert ("unlawful")

Clause 1, page 1, line 9, after ("prostitution") insert ("and as if the words or been unlawfully "carnally known' were inserted after the words 'become a prostitute,' and section eighteen of the same Act shall be read as if the words or of 'being unlawfully carnally known' were inserted after the words seduction or prostitution'").—(Earl Beauchamp.)

On Question, Amendments agreed to.

The Report of Amendments to be received To-morrow, and Bill to be printed as I amended. (No. 138.)
