Lord SALTOUNMy Lords, I beg to move for a Return of the population in the crofting parishes of counties in Scotland, showing the totals for each county separately in the years 1881–1886, 1891–1896, and 1901–1906. I quite recognise that I have asked for the information in somewhat minute detail, but as it is important, I hope that His Majesty's Government will be able to give me the Return.

Lord HAMILTON of DALZELLMy Lords, I can promise the Return for which the noble Lord asks for the years1881. 1891, and 1901, which are the census years. As regards the other years, it is not clear that sufficient data are available. But if the noble Lord will consent to leave the matter in the hands of the Secretary for Scotland he will undertake that the Return shall be as complete as possible.
