HL Deb 30 June 1903 vol 124 c905

Order of the day for the House going into Committee read.

LORD KENYON

My Lords, in moving that the House go into Committee on this Bill, I wish to say that the Marquess of Ripon and several other noble Lords have brought to my notice a resolution passed by the West Riding County Council objecting to the clause that enables the different local authorities to veto the resolution of the County Council. As a matter of fact, in the House of Commons the smaller local bodies objected to the County Council having entire authority, and this clause was put in as a compromise. Although anxious to do everything to meet the views of the County Councils in this matter, the clause cannot very well be altered now.

House in Committee (according to Order).

Clause 1 agreed to.

Clause 2 omitted.

Clause 3 agreed to.

Bill recommitted to the Standing Committee; and to be printed as amended. (No. 149.)
