HL Deb 10 June 1901 vol 94 cc1439-40

Bill read 3ª [according to Order].

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Lord BALFOUR OF BURLEIGH)

As Clause 55 now stands, the company would be able, with the consent of the local authority, to lay down lines at any portion of the tramways for the purpose of crossings and sidings, and to put the rails nearer the footpath than 9 feet 6 inches. We wish to limit that power, and the Amendment of which I have given notice carries out that object.

Amendment moved— In Clause 55 of Schedule, page 20, line 43 to leave out 'for a distance of 30 feet or up wards.'"—(Lord Balfour of Burleigh.)

On question, Amendment agreed to.

Bill passed, and returned to the Commons.
