asked the First Commissioner of Works, Whether a design for the construction and ventilation of the sewers of the Houses of Parliament, submitted by Mr. H. R. Newton to Her Majesty's Government, had been brought under the notice of the authority in charge of the drainage arrangements?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER (The Earl of ELGIN)

, in reply, said, that he had received a very long letter from Mr. Newton with reference to the construction and ventilation of the sewers of the Houses, and that he would take its contents into consideration in conjunction with the suggestions of the Committee appointed by the other House to report upon the whole subject.
