HL Deb 05 March 1857 vol 144 cc1888-9

Order of the Day for the Third Reading read.

EARL GRANVILLE moved that the Bill be now read 3a.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

hoped the third reading would not be pressed at present. He would move— To leave out all the words after the word 'That,' for the purpose of inserting the following words:—'Copies of the correspondence which has taken place between the magistrates of Staffordshire and Sir George Grey upon the appointment of Colonel Hogg to be Chief Constable.' After a short debate, which was quite inaudible.

On Question, that the words proposed to be left out stand part of the Motion, their Lordships divided:—Content 28; Not Content 13: Majority 15.

Resolved in the Affirmative; Bill read 3a accordingly, and passed.
