HC Deb 25 May 1922 vol 154 cc1394-5
13. Lord H. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked the Linder-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, seeing that under the Trianon Treaty, Articles 207–6 and Article 208, the Reparation Commission have the power to enforce economic cooperation between the succession states, what action to that end is intended?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Cecil Harmsworth)

Reference to the Articles mentioned will show that it is misleading to suggest that the Reparation Commission have power to enforce economic cooperation between the successor states. Such co-operation was, however, the object of the Conference held last October at Porto Rose, which His Majesty's Government did everything possible to encourage. I hope that the results of the Genoa Conference will contribute to the same end.
