HC Deb 08 May 1922 vol 153 c1771
15. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether all the new ships which have had to be surrendered by Germany to this country have yet been handed over; can he state the total number of new vessels and the total tonnage which has been surrendered; and to which British shipping companies such ships have been sold?

Mr. BALDWIN

Twenty-five vessels of 255,000 tons gross, which were under construction when the Peace Treaty came in force, were allotted to this country, and all except one vessel of 18,000 tons gross have been delivered. I am sending the hon. Member a list of firms which purchased the vessels.

Mr. W. THORNE

Can the right hon. Gentleman give the information, which I have asked for on more than one occasion, as to the prices paid for these ships by the respective firms?

Mr. MACLEAN

And the tonnage as well?

Mr. BALDWIN

I am not aware that the hon. Gentleman has asked for that information.
