HC Deb 08 May 1922 vol 153 cc1797-8
70. Mr. GRITTEN

asked the Minister of Agriculture how much money is allowed to the Admiralty representative in France for the purpose of selling first-class reconditioned British fishing vessels to France; how many such ships he has already sold; what commission, if any, he is entitled to draw; and how much in cash is paid for each vessel?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Mr. Amery)

I have been asked to reply. The Admiralty representative on the Continent is paid on a commission basis on terms which compare advantageously to the Admiralty with ordinary commercial terms for similar services. Six trawlers have already been sold as a direct result of his efforts, and further sales are likely to result. It is not in the public interest to state the amounts paid for the vessels, especially as there still remain for sale some vessels of these types; but the prices have been favourable in the light of existing market conditions.
