HC Deb 04 May 1922 vol 153 cc1544-5
27. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Prime Minister when a statement of British policy, in face of the new crisis over German reparation payments will be made to the House; whether an opportunity will be given to discuss the situation before the French Army advances further into Germany; whether any decision has been come to as to the use of the British troops on the Rhine during the intended occupation; and, if so, what is it?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am not aware of any decision taken by the French Ministry as to an advance by the French Army into Germany. The rest of the question, accordingly, does not arise.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Can we rely on having a statement in this House, and will an opportunity be given for Debate before any further sanctions are put into force against Germany?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

It is rather difficult to go into purely hypothetical questions.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the claim of the French to take separate action, and can we have a chance of debating that in this House before it is put into force?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

That is really not the question.

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a matter of French politics.
