HC Deb 04 May 1922 vol 153 c1548
40. Mr. RENDALL

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether there are many British women who have been deserted by alien husbands who have procured divorce in their own countries, and remarried; and whether, and when, steps will be taken to grant these British women freedom to re-marry here?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Shortt)

I know of no figures of the kind desired. I suppose the difficulty which the hon. Member has in mind is that of proving the foreign divorce or establishing its validity in English law. I fear there are no steps which I can take to assist in this matter.
