HC Deb 02 May 1922 vol 153 cc1146-7
22. Mr. KENNEDY

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will state definitely whether Irish prison officers who may voluntarily retire in consequence of the change of Government, and who have served, say, 23 years, would, on having the transitional years added to their service, be entitled to receive their full pension as though they had actually served 30 years in accordance with Section 1, Sub-section (1, b), of the Superannuation (Prison Officers) Act, 1919?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

Yes, Sir. A prison officer of 23 years' service to whom the Superannuation (Prison Officers) Act, 1919, applies, who may voluntarily retire in consequence of the change of Government, will be entitled to compensation not less favourable than that accorded by the Act of 1920, namely, an annual allowance calculated in accordance with the Act of 1919 as though he had actually served to the end of the transitional period or to the time when he would have reached the age of 65, whichever may be the earlier.
