HC Deb 02 May 1922 vol 153 c1147
23. Sir F. HALL

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies when the elections in Southern Ireland will take place; and what measures have been taken to ensure that those with a right to vote will be allowed to do so without coercion of any kind?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

I understand that the Provisional Government hope to be in a position to arrange for the holding of an election next month. It is for that Government to take such steps as may seem to them most efficacious to prevent intimidation or coercion, and I cannot make any statement on the subject.

Sir F. HALL

Will the right hon. Gentleman communicate with the Southern Government and ask them to take necessary steps in order that those people who are desirous of showing what their will is may be protected?

Mr. DEVLIN

In view of the disturbance that took place last night in St. George's, Hanover Square, at a meeting in support of one of the Government's candidates, will due and adequate steps be taken to protect the electors of Westminster?
