HC Deb 02 May 1922 vol 153 cc1167-8
53. Captain BENN

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether, in view of the statement by the Prime Minister at Genoa, that until all countries were members of the League of Nations peace in Europe was hardly possible, he can say what action was taken by the British delegates at the last assembly of the League of Nations in relation to the admission of Germany?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The admission of Germany to membership of the League of Nations did not come up for consideration at the last assembly, no application for admission having been made by, or on behalf of, that State.

Captain BENN

Was it likely that application would be made if it was known that it would not receive the support of this country?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

That is an entirely different question.

Captain BENN

Were any instructions given to delegates to support such an application if it was made?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

No.
