§ 25. Mr. GILLISasked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been drawn to the case of ex-Sergeant G. Parsonage, of 18, Dundee Street, Lancaster; whether he is aware that this man was employed as an investigating officer in the military service (Civil Liabilities Department) of the Ministry of Labour, 21st June, 1920, to 8th July, 1921; that he registered his name with the Joint Substitution Board on their invitation on 4th April, 1921; that he was informed by the Board on 13th January, 1922, that his case had been transferred to the Employment Department, Manchester; that he was informed by the Employment Department, Manchester, on 2nd February, 1922, that his case had been transferred to the Labour Exchange, Lancaster; that he has subsequently been informed at the Labour Exchange, Lancaster, that there are no vacancies for him; and whether he is able to take any further action in the matter?
§ The MINISTER of LABOUR (Dr. Macnamara)Mr. Parsonage was discharged in July last owing to diminution in the work of the Civil Liabilities Department. The Joint Substitution Board was notified in April, 1921, of his impending discharge, but, having no suitable administrative vacancy, endeavoured through its local agencies at Manchester and Lancaster to find him a clerical post. He was unfortunately unsuccessful in connection with one or two posts for which he was considered locally. Efforts are still being made, and will be continued on his behalf.
