§ 26. Mr. W. GRAHAMasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Governor of Jamaica has appointed a Committee to report on the index figure of the cost of living in the island; whether the Report has been received; and, if so, whether it will be published and any action taken in regard to its findings?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLThe reply to the first and second parts of the hon. Member's question are in the affirmative. I do not know to what extent publicity has been given in Jamaica to the Report in question, but it was communicated to a local Whitley Committee appointed to advise as to the necessity of regrading public officers' salaries at the present time, and I understand that, on the 800 receipt of the Report of that Committee, which has been published locally, a Commission was appointed to consider the whole question of the remuneration of Government officers in the colony.
