HC Deb 14 February 1922 vol 150 cc799-800
26. Mr. W. GRAHAM

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Governor of Jamaica has appointed a Committee to report on the index figure of the cost of living in the island; whether the Report has been received; and, if so, whether it will be published and any action taken in regard to its findings?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The reply to the first and second parts of the hon. Member's question are in the affirmative. I do not know to what extent publicity has been given in Jamaica to the Report in question, but it was communicated to a local Whitley Committee appointed to advise as to the necessity of regrading public officers' salaries at the present time, and I understand that, on the receipt of the Report of that Committee, which has been published locally, a Commission was appointed to consider the whole question of the remuneration of Government officers in the colony.
