HC Deb 09 February 1922 vol 150 c299
62. Sir PARK GOFF

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is prepared to remove or reduce the club tax imposed in 1909 of 6d. in the £ on all purchases of alcoholic drink, which is a tax paid not only on the commodity, but on the tax on such commodity; and whether he is aware that clubs pay more in club tax than licence holders for licence?

Sir R. HORNE

This matter will be considered in connection with the Budget proposals.

Sir P. GOFF

May I ask if the right hon. Gentleman contemplates giving effect to his pledge of July last?

Sir R. HORNE

I have not even arrived at the period of contemplation.
