Mr. GIDEON MURRAYasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he cabled to the Prime Minister of Australia a few days ago accepting responsibility on behalf of His Majesty's Government for a proportion of the interest upon a loan to be raised by the, Australian Government for the settlement of British persons in that Dominion; whether he will say what the amount of the loan will be, and the proportion of interest payable by the Imperial Government; and whether he will give a short description of the terms of the scheme and to what State or States in Australia it will be applicable?
§ Mr. AMERYThe question of financial co-operation in schemes of settlement and migration is under discussion with the Commonwealth Authorities, but no decision has yet been taken. I hope to give a full explanation of the policy of His Majesty's Government as regards cooperation with the Oversea Government in this matter on the Second Reading of the Empire Settlement Bill.
