HC Deb 05 April 1922 vol 152 cc2213-4
12. Viscount CURZON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is yet in a position to make any announcement with regard to how it is proposed to deal with officers of the Royal Navy surplus to requirements; and whether he can assure the House that a similar delay in promotion will not occur again?

Mr. AMERY

Proposals for effecting the reduction of surplus officers of the fighting services are now being considered, and it is hoped that a decision will 'be reached shortly. As regards the second part of the question, the postponed promotions to the rank of Commander have now been announced. There is no reason to anticipate the recurrence of a similar delay in announcing promotions.

Viscount CURZON

Can the hon. Gentleman give any idea when the Government are likely to come to a decision as to what will be done with officers surplus to requirement?

Mr. AMERY

I hope a decision will be reached in a very few days.
