HC Deb 26 May 1921 vol 142 cc293-4
23. Colonel GRETTON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if representatives of the so-called Republican Government in Ireland have been received officially by the Russian Government at Moscow and are now recognised and established there?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Cecil Harmsworth)

His Majesty's Government have no information on the subject beyond that which has already appeared in the Press.

Lieut.-Colonel CROFT

Have the Government made inquiries into this very serious connection between the Bolsheviks and the Sinn Fein Government in Ireland?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

No.

Lieut.-Colonel CROFT

Is the hon. Member in a position to give the terms of the Treaty between the Sinn Fein Government and the Bolsheviks?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

I am afraid not.

Lieut.-Colonel CROFT

Is it not a fact that the Secretary of State was aware of the Treaty some time ago?
