HC Deb 26 May 1921 vol 142 c282
3. Earl WINTERTON

asked the Minister of Pensions why the recommendations of the Local War Pensions Committee at Horsham that Albert James Sutton, 10, Barttelot Road, Horsham, late private 9119, Royal Munster Fusiliers, should be compensated by the payment of £16 2s. 8d. for the damage caused by his artificial limbs to his clothing, were not accepted by the Ministry and a grant of £1 5s. made?

The MINISTER of PENSIONS (Mr. Macpherson)

The recommendations of the local committee could not be accepted, but a grant of £5 was sanctioned on the 20th instant in place of his original award of £1 5s.

Earl WINTERTON

Could the right hon. Gentleman explain why the recommendations of the local committee could not be sanctioned? Is he aware that they went very carefully into the circumstances of the case, and came to the conclusion that the amount they recommended was no more than adequate compensation for the damage which had been done?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I should like to see my Noble Friend privately on that matter.
