HC Deb 26 May 1921 vol 142 cc313-4
54. Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Home Secretary whether he can make any further statement as to the propaganda of a Bolshevist nature in this country; and whether there is any indication that any portion of the funds at the back of it come from Soviet Russia?

Mr. SHORTT

I think it would be undesirable to make any further statement in this matter at present. The statement made by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State on the 20th April still holds good.

Lieut.-Colonel CROFT

Why is it undesirable? Would it not be a good thing for the country to know the facts? Is it not the case that two years ago the late Leader of the House informed me that very large sums of money had come from Scandinavia, and have not Ministers recently hinted that large sums have been coming in? Is the country not entitled to know?

Mr. SHORTT

I have nothing to add to the statement which I have made.
