32. Captain TERRELLasked the Minister of Labour whether he will state the industries or professions, apart from the Civil Service, in which the present rates of pay are governed solely by reference to the actual cost of living as compared with pre-war rates, and in which no reference is paid to the existing acute depression?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAAn account of the principal agreements providing for the automatic regulation of wages in accordance with variations in the cost of living was given on pages 662–4 of the "Labour Gazette" for December last, a copy of which I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend. Since that date somewhat similar arrangements have been adopted for the future regulation of wages in the following additional industries or sections of industries: Building, vehicle building, farriery, wholesale tailoring, hosiery manufacture, civil engineering (construction), brass founding and finishing (Midlands), edge tool manufacture, cast-iron hollow-ware manufacture, carting (Scotland), mill-sawing. (Scotland), baking (Scotland), packing - case making (London).
§ Mr. A. M. SAMUELDoes that apply to those members of the public who have bought annuities from the Post Office?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAI cannot follow the hon. Member. Perhaps he will put a question on the Paper.
