Mr. RAMSDENasked the Postmaster-General whether, in finally settling the amounts due for trunk calls and postal telegrams charged to telephone subscribers on the monthly statement of account, he has credited them the £1 deposit which was demanded when the telephone first was installed to cover any loss through non-payment of any of these charges?
§ The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Pike Pease)Any deposit held by the Post Office in respect of trunk calls and telegrams will be credited to the subscriber in the first account which he receives under the new system of quarterly accounting for all charges. Where a subscriber gives up the service, an account is made for the charges due from him, and if a deposit is held in excess of this amount the balance is refunded to him.
