§ 5. Mr. MILLSasked the President of the Board of Trade the cause of the continued high price of Danish and other bacon; if he is aware that an excess price of 15s. per cwt., after all possible charges have been estimated, over the price paid in America for American bacon is being charged: and will he cause inquiries to be made, in view of the then Food Controller's optimism of the prospect of cheaper bacon when the cost of control ceased?
§ Sir P. LLOYD-GREAMESince decontrol, the price of Danish and other bacon of a similar quality has risen, owing to the insufficiency of the supply to meet the demand. As regards the second part of the question, I was not aware that an excessive price is being charged for American bacon, and I should be glad if the hon. Member would be so good as to send me any particulars he may have on the matter.
