HC Deb 18 April 1921 vol 140 c1501
5. Mr. MILLS

asked the President of the Board of Trade the cause of the continued high price of Danish and other bacon; if he is aware that an excess price of 15s. per cwt., after all possible charges have been estimated, over the price paid in America for American bacon is being charged: and will he cause inquiries to be made, in view of the then Food Controller's optimism of the prospect of cheaper bacon when the cost of control ceased?

Sir P. LLOYD-GREAME

Since decontrol, the price of Danish and other bacon of a similar quality has risen, owing to the insufficiency of the supply to meet the demand. As regards the second part of the question, I was not aware that an excessive price is being charged for American bacon, and I should be glad if the hon. Member would be so good as to send me any particulars he may have on the matter.
