HC Deb 12 April 1921 vol 140 c917
45. Mr. T. SHAW

asked the Prime Minister whether, in accordance with Article 405 of the Treaty of Peace, he has informed the Secretary-General of the League of Nations of the passage into law of Bills embodying the provisions of the Draft Convention dealing with the employment of women and children adopted by the Washington Conference?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The exact method of ratifying the draft conventions of the International Labour Organisation has not yet been determined, as the position of these draft Conventions is somewhat different from that of other international Conventions. As soon, however, as the question of form has been settled, formal ratification will be effected where this course is approved by the competent authority.

Mr. SHAW

Can the right hon. Gentleman give us any idea when the formalities will be completed?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am afraid I cannot give the date. I understand that rather delicate constitutional questions arise which require careful examination, about which an agreement has not yet been reached.
