HC Deb 12 April 1921 vol 140 c894
6. Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Greek Government is receiving any financial or other assistance, either direct or indirect, from His Majesty's Government in their offensive against the Nationalist forces in Anatolia; and whether ammunition or other stores are being supplied to the Greeks from British or Egyptian sources?

Sir P. LLOYD-GREAME

The answer to both parts of the question is in the negative.

56. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the allegations that munitions and Reservists or Volunteers have been sent from Egypt to help the Constantian Greeks, either with the assistance or consent of His Majesty's Government; and, if this is so, why are we helping the Greeks against the Moslems of Asia, seeing that 90,000,000 Moslems are our fellow citizens within the Empire?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN (Leader of the House)

There is no truth in the allegation that His Majesty's Government have sent or assisted in sending from Egypt munitions, Reservists or Volunteers to Greece.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that statements of that sort are being made by the Angora Government? Could there not be some sort of contradiction published with regard to such allegations?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

If the Government are to issue contradictions of every inaccurate statement that is made it will greatly add to its labours. I hope that the announcement which my hon. and gallant Friend has elicited from me will serve that very useful purpose.
