HC Deb 26 October 1920 vol 133 c1548
38. Mr. T. GRIFFITHS

asked the Home Secretary whether the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Acts preclude pensioned police officers, other than those of the Metropolitan, from being candidates for city or borough councils of the areas in which they performed duty; and, if so, will he consider the introduction of a Bill at an early date to amend the existing statutes so that this disability may be removed and full citizen rights extended to men who are fitted by then-public service to engage in local government?

Mr. SHORTT

I am not aware of any provision that precludes a police pensioner from being elected to a town council.
