21. Sir J. REMNANT

asked the Home Secretary how many time-expired members of the Metropolitan Police were retained in the service under the provisions of the Police (Emergencies) Provisions Act, 1915; and how many of this number retired on medical certificate between the passing of the Act and the Armistice?

Mr. SHORTT

The number of men who were retained in the Metropolitan Police under the provisions of the Police (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1915, was 1,983. Of this number 253 retired on medical certificate between the date of the passing of the Act and the Armistice.

22. Sir J. REMNANT

asked the Home Secretary how many pensioners from the Metropolitan Police are employed to clean police stations; how many are employed in museums and other public buildings; and, of this number, how many are in receipt of pre-War and post-War pensions, respectively?

Mr. SHORTT

I am taking steps to obtain the information asked for and will communicate it to the hon. and gallant Member as soon as possible.
