HC Deb 20 October 1920 vol 133 c918
39. Mr. MALONE

asked the Prime Minister if he will make a statement concerning the progress of negotiations for the resumption of relations between Great Britain and Russia?

Mr. BONAR LAW (Leader of the Huose)

The present state of this question is fully set forth in the recent correspondence between the British Government and the Soviet Government, which has been published in the Press. His Majesty's Government understands that in accordance with the terms of this correspondence, the Soviet Government is now engaged in arranging the safe conduct of British prisoners to the boundaries of Russia.

Mr. MALONE

Is His Majesty's Government still continuing to supply munitions and military assistance to Czarist Generals in the South of Russia?

Mr. BONAR LAW

It has been many times stated, and I state again, that no such provision is being supplied.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Was not an agreement signed on 7th July last with the Russian Soviet Government for the resumption of trade relations, and can the right hon. Gentleman explain the long delay in bringing about the necessary trading, and when will a full statement be made?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The delay is not difficult to explain. The arrangement was contingent upon some agreements by the Soviet Government, among which was the return of prisoners. When that is done the negotiations will be resumed.
