HC Deb 20 October 1920 vol 133 c919
20 and 21. Major BARNES

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) whether he can state the amount and the value of the dyes imported from Germany since 1st January; what is the quantity which has been delivered in respect of reparations under the Treaty of Versailles;

(2) whether he can state the quantity and quality of the chemicals imported from Germany since 1st January and how much represents reparations payments?

Sir P. LLOYD-GREAME

I will answer these questions together. The total quantity of synthetic dyestuffs, including intermediates, consigned from Germany, registered in the first nine months of this year, was 1,574 tons, valued at £1,399,027, of which 877 tons were received under the Reparation Clauses of the Treaty of Versailles. Details as to the quantities of chemicals imported from Germany are at present only available for the first two quarters of this year. Particulars covering the first nine months are being compiled, and I will communicate them to the honourable and gallant Member as soon as possible. No chemicals other than dye-stuffs have been received from Germany by way of reparation.
