HC Deb 20 October 1920 vol 133 cc913-4
29. Dr. MURRAY

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether he will institute an inquiry into the financial results of the Education (Scotland) Act, 1918, particularly in regard to local rating?

Mr. MUNRO

The accounts of the Education Authorities for the year ending 15th May, 1920, are at present under audit. In ordinary course the audit would not be completed and the accountant's report would not be issued till towards the end of the present financial year. But the question of the effect of educational expenditure under the Act of 1918 upon local rating is at present engaging my attention, and I hope to issue a preliminary statement on the subject at an early date.
