HC Deb 24 November 1920 vol 135 cc429-30
44. Mr. LEONARD LYLE

asked the Minister of Health whether he has issued instructions that all houses to whose erection State assistance has contributed shall be offered to British subjects; and, if not, whether he will take steps to convey this recommendation to all the local authorities concerned?

Dr. ADDISON

The selection of tenants for their houses is left to the discretion of the local authorities, but I have issued suggestions in the matter, and I think that local authorities generally are giving the first preference amongst the applicants to ex-service men with families.

Mr. LYLE

Does the right hon. Gentleman not think it is most unsatisfactory that ex-service men and women should be without houses while in many cases most undesirable aliens should have houses?

Dr. ADDISON

I think it is undesirable.
