§ 34. Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKEasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether there is any foundation for the report that it is the intention of the Government to erect a monument at Portsmouth in memory of the officers and men of the Royal Navy who lost their lives in the great War; and, if this is their intention, will he consider the possibility of suggesting the erection of a similar memorial on Mount Wise, Devonport?
§ Sir J. CRAIGThe Imperial War Graves Commission is desirous of erecting memorials to commemorate the names of the officers and men of the Naval Forces who were lost or buried at sea. An Admiralty Committee appointed to enable the Admiralty to make recommendations to the War Graves Commission on this subject has recently considered sites at the three naval ports, with a view to erection of a memorial at each; but the Report of the Committee has not yet been considered by the Admiralty.
§ Mr. PEMBERTON BILLINGWill the members of The Royal Naval Air Service be included?
§ Sir J. CRAIGI am afraid that I shall require notice of that question. I am not sure whether they come under this, scheme or under another scheme.
§ Lieut-Commander KENWORTHYWhy only the three naval ports? Does he include the Scottish port of Rosyth?
§ Sir J. CRAIGThe matter is still under consideration, and it has been decided that the three naval ports shall be taken. I am not sure about other ports.
