HC Deb 17 November 1920 vol 134 cc1873-4
32. Captain TERRELL

asked the Minister of Health whether he is setting up a Committee to consider the present high cost of building; and how many such bodies he has already appointed in connection with any aspects of the housing movement?

Dr. ADDISON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As to the second part of the question, I appointed a Committee to report on the question of Regional planning in South Wales. Apart from this, the only Gommittees which I have appointed are Sub-committees of my Housing Advisory Council which have been set up to investigate highly technical questions such as model forms of contract, new methods of construction, model specifications, and so forth.

Captain TERRELL

May I ask if the right hon. Gentleman has yet appointed the Committee referred to?

Dr. ADDIS0N

No, Sir, the personnel has not yet been settled.

Mr. W. THORNE

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the question of the amount of money spent for land acquisition purposes at the same time?

Dr. ADDISON

I think I may say as much as that. We have obtained our land at an extraordinarily low cost, considering the circumstances—in fact, most of it at a lower cost than land obtained in 1913.
