HC Deb 09 November 1920 vol 134 cc1006-7
58. Mr. G. BARNES

asked the Minister of Health if he is yet in a position to make any statement of the Government policy regarding the Washington Convention re maternity; and if, in any case, he will submit the convention to the judgment of the House.

Dr. ADDISON

The Ministry of Health have reported on this matter; but certain questions have arisen on points which are outside the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health, and the Government are not yet in a position to make a statement.

Mr. BARNES

May I ask for a reply to the last part of the question, whether the right hon. Gentleman will sometime submit the Convention to the judgment of this House, and is he aware of the extreme impatience of women's organisations in this country in consequence of the long delay in bringing the matter before the House?

Dr. ADDISON

I know there is a good deal of impatience on the part of the people concerned as to an opportunity for discussion, and perhaps my right hon. Friend will put down a question on the subject to the Leader of the House.
