HL Deb 21 March 1994 vol 553 c16WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What assessment they have made, in considering the level of armed forces needed by Indonesia, of the likelihood of acts of aggression against Indonesia by any of her neighbours.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

None. It is for Indonesia to make that assessment.

Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they consider that the size of the armed forces of Malaysia, Philippines or Australia, is determined in part by need to prepare against possible acts of aggression by Indonesia.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

It would not be appropriate for Her Majesty's Government to comment on the defence policies of other, peaceable and friendly countries.
