HL Deb 06 December 1977 vol 387 c1605WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What approaches have been made to them regarding arms purchases by the Bolivian Government in the process of taking up credits of £57 million said by the British Embassy in La Paz to have been made available for military sales; whether the embassy has been facilitating sales of military equipment in Bolivia; what credits are known to the Government to be outstanding; and whether they will now place an embargo on all sales of military hardware to Bolivia until tangible progress has been made in the restoration of human rights there.

Lord GORONWY-ROBERTS

It is not our practice to disclose details of our arms transactions with other countries. Any request by the Bolivian Government will be considered against our normal criteria, including that of human rights.
