HC Deb 10 December 1963 vol 686 cc214-5
Q5. Mr. McMaster

asked the Prime Minister whether new measures were discussed during his meeting with the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland to help reduce unemployment in Ulster

The Prime Minister

The main purpose of this meeting was to enable me to meet the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, but, together with my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary, we discussed various aspects of the Northern Ireland economic position.

Mr. McMaster

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the news of an early meeting between him and the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland will be very much welcomed there? Will my right hon. Friend do all he can to see that the United Kingdom Government's new assistance through increased public expenditure in development areas is extended to Northern Ireland in proportion to the number of men out of work there?

The Prime Minister

I heard my hon. Friend's speech in the House last week and read the reply made by my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary to the Treasury. I hope that they were both satisfactory.
