HC Deb 04 November 1958 vol 594 c748
18. Mr. Wade

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what answer has been given to the proposal by the Human Rights Committee of the Cyprus Medical Association that one of its members should be present at the post-mortem of persons who die while in the hands of the Security Forces in Cyprus.

Mr. Profumo

The Governor is considering the representations made to him on 23rd October.

Mr. Wade

While recognising the extreme provocation with which our troops are faced, and for which the troops themselves are not to blame, may I ask the Minister whether it would not be wise to take any opportunity that presents itself to provide evidence to the people of Cyprus and the world that no unnecessary violence is used by the Security Forces, in spite of that provocation?

Mr. Profumo

I am sure that the Governor will have all those matters in mind when he considers the representations.
